Joanne's "Margaret Garner Cook Pot" is currently on exhibit at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati. Her 1998 "Margaret Garner" screenplay was the recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Fellowship Award, with a panelist calling it "America's 'Sophie's Choice'."  Joanne is currently at work on a television series based on her Margaret Garner book.

Based on research begun more than 20 years ago for a screenplay, Joanne's MARGARET GARNER describes the events surrounding the enslaved mother’s tragic child murder in 1856. Included are details of Kentucky slavery and the selling of mulatto "fancy girls" • The owners and their slave trading business; one an Oregon Governor and the other a possible batterer who killed his wife • Wealthy white neighbors and their Presbyterian Church that "Margaret" joined as it struggled with slavery's moral issues • The Garners' imprisonment and trial. attended by throngs of protestors, including suffragist Lucy Stone • Interviews with Margaret and husband Simon, a Civil War veteran • Plus preliminary excavation results from Margaret’s farm and listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

BONUS MATERIAL: Ten percent of the book is italicized with information acquired from deceased individuals who contacted the author, including Margaret. MARGARET AND ME, the author’s memoir, details the paranormal events when she learned about her past life as Margaret’s murdered child.
